General Description:
This is an excellent and rare English Fusee-Lever, Pocket Watch, by Thomas Wheeler of Preston, the Railway Watch Manufacturer and comes in a Silver Case, dating to 1876c. It is in very good working condition and keeping excellent " ROYAL" Time. Brian Loomes lists Thos. Wheeler as a Clockmaker in Preston in 1860c.
The case is stamped with the Lion Passant Standard Mark and has a LONDON Assay Mark for 1876c. The Case Maker's mark is JTW, which is that of James Thomas White of Clerkenwell (see Priestly). It is also signed with Wheeler's Mark - JW.
It has an Enamel Dial, which is in excellent condition and bears the signatures RAILWAY WATCH MANUFACTURER - THOMAS WHEELER - PRESTON and ROYAL TIME above the subs dial. It has Roman Numerals and gold hands.
The movement is an English Full Plate, FUSEE-LEVER Movement, signed Thomas Wheeler Preston - RAILWAY WATCH MANUFACTURER, has a Ruby Endstone, bears s/n 17933 and is Key Wound and Set. It is in excellent working condition and keeping good time - Ref. CF4.11
